I wanted a watch that exuded elegance and sophistication without being overly flashy. This chrongraph exceeded all of my expectations.

I bought this because I was looking for an automatic chronograph whose diameter was under 40mm. (when worn 39mm and 40mm watches look very different. Though the difference in just 1mm, 40mm watches look much bigger than 39mm watches). There are better/better-looking automatic chronographs out there with comparable prices but they are too big to look like mine. Overall I am satisfied with the watch!

    Plus:
    1. Good quality Omega chronograph fitted in 39mm case. The quality of Omega pieces is much better than Tag. Tag cant seem to make one automatic piece whose thickness is less than 14-16mm while Omega seems to have fitted the parts in 39mm/11.5mm thickness case.
    2. Completely satisfied with the steel casing and the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. If you are thinking of buying
    3. Bracelet is a very good piece of engineering. The lock and release is very well engineered. The bracelet has a link which is half the size of other links so that you can get a good fit on your wrist.

    Minus:
    1. The seconds hand rotates only if the chronograph is on! This is very counter-intuitive and made me wonder if this was a manufacturing defect! (no, it is not a defect. That is how the watch is designed to work)
    2. The illumination material on the minute/hour/second hands that allows you to read time in the dark is too little to read time comfortably.
    3. If your wrist is hairy, the links on the bracelet pulls the hairs on your wrist. The pulls are so small and happen so less often they are almost negligible but it could have been better designed. (Bracelet design for Seamaster watches are better)
    4. Amazon is good for selling books and music but seem to lack experience with selling expensive items like this. I had some trouble with the order and though their customer service has improved a lot they lack experience in selling expensive items like this.

This watch if for you if you have a relatively small wrist but want to own (and wear) a good chronograph (and don’t mind the Tachymetre scale).

Too many amateurs trying to offer moronic opinions.

This isn’t for the Casio / Crapticitizen crowd.

Since this is one of the least expensive Omega’s you can buy, there are too many Cheapo Seiko and Crapicitizen users who spent the last $1,400 of their subprime mortgage line of credit to foray into the First Class section.

The 39mm case and 18mm lugs are often referred to as “standard” size by the horological community since it is the most common made and can be worn comfortably by the ladies w/o seeming oversized. The 1850 Omega bracelet can be adjusted down to fit a ladies wrist since the butterfly clasp requires is petite hardware.

The self winding rotor is noticeably audible and this is be design compared to some newer Speedmasters which have nearly silent rotors no matter how hard they’re shaken.

The caseback is austere stainless with a basic Seahorse engraving that can be found on some Seamasters except w/o the wave background.

The pull out crown is water resistant and can be used to begin manually winding the movement with ease.

This ISN’T COSC certified and the official power reserve is rated at 44 hours w/o a running chronograph and we’ve consistently verified this fact.

If you’re ready to own a timepiece that never requires a battery, and will last forever unless you harshly abuse it and store it inside a box of magnets… then upgrade to a Speedmaster.

If you’re a Casio or Citizen user and expect your watch to have an in indiglo or whatever green light and beep with an alarm and keep accurate time to 1/10th of a second every month then keep dorking around with your rubber strap $99 Wal-Mart sold watch and keep replacing your batteries every year and impressing the Star Trek Convention crowd.
